What to Expect
Our group leaves from the Old Town Outfitters Shop at 6:00 am, where you can fill up your water bottles and purchase any additional gear you might need. From there we will hop in a private transport to Lake Atitlán, stopping on the way for a quick breakfast. After 2 hours of driving up through the highlands, we drop over the bowl of the lake’s ridge into the town of Panajachel. After we jump into our boat taxi at the lakeshore, we enjoy breath-taking views of the lake from water level during a 15-minute cruise to the outskirts of the village of Jaibalito. Here we will have time to organize our paddling and hiking supplies, change into swimsuits and apply sunscreen.
Our paddle takes us westward along the north shore of Atitlán for 1½-2 hours, passing by tiny villages perched on the sides of the sheer ridges that rise up from the azure waters of the lake. Depending on the weather – and speed of the kayak group - there are opportunities to stop for a dip and/or cliff jump. After passing the village of Tzununá, we cruise into the bay of San Marcos La Laguna and trade our kayaks for our daypacks and hiking shoes.
Climbing out of town on the lake trail, which connects village to village, we’re treated to spectacular vistas of volcanoes San Pedro, Tolimán and Atitlán. We’ll pass through the centers of San Marcos and Tzununá as we follow the shoreline for 1½-hours, eventually returning back to Jaibalito. After a hearty and well-earned lunch at hotel Casa Del Mundo, we head back to Panajachel in a boat taxi. There we are met by our private transport, arriving back to Antigua just before sunset.

What Our Travelers Are Saying…
I had a excellent experience with Old Town Outfitters. My kids surprised me with a trip to Guatemala. They scheduled three different tours with Old Town Outfitters during our stay. Our first tour was the Kayak and hike at Lake Atitlan. It was wonderful! The water and the scenery were beautiful! The hike did not disappoint! The hike had beautiful views, cool rocks and scenery. Pablo was our guide and he was awesome! Afterwards, we all had lunch together at Casa Del Mundo, where we were staying, and recapped our fun day. If you are coming to Guatemala and want to get the feel of the culture, get outside, get exercise, and learn about the history of this wonderful country, I highly recommend Old Town Outfitters. They are very professional and helpful no matter what your interest.

Choose your dates below, or join and existing trip and save with tiered pricing!
What's Tiered Pricing?
We work with a tiered pricing system, which means that the individual price per person depends on the total number of paying customers (or PAX) in the respective group. This allows us to operate without fixed departure days and required minimums. Joining existing trips is usually the best option for solo travelers, as this way we can offer a lower trip price from the start. You can see all our trips on the calendar of confirmed departures. You can keep track of the calendar to see if and which tours we still get going for your preferred trip dates. If you prioritize not making a commitment ahead of time and prefer to book on short notice, this would be the way to go.
That being said, you can of course start a new group yourself for your preferred trip date in order to get the ball rolling and hopefully have other people join over the coming weeks. If you prioritize securing the date and ensuring guide availability, choose this option. We usually charge a deposit of the respective 2-person trip price to get started. If more people join the group, the trip price will come down accordingly. Any resulting price difference we will of course refund you. In case nobody else joins, you would however have to be prepared to pay the full corresponding 1-person price in order for your trip to still go forward.
