Heading north
out of town we start a steep ascent up through a coffee
plantation up to the top of the ridge. The push is rough,
but the views back out over the valley are well worth
the pain. The ridgeline at about 2300 mts. takes us
through old growth forest and a couple small indigenous
villages before we start making our way around and down
the other side of the bowl. We have a nice picnic lunch
taking in the views of the Antigua valley and then continue
on our digs for the night, A-frame cabins at a mountainside
hostal with tremendous views back over town. The sunset
from here is out of this world, a great way to end a
long hard walk. The next day we have coffee and breaky
then head down the mountain back to Antigua.
