This tour is named for
the Almolonga Valley, just to the west of Antigua, which was
home of the 2nd capital of Guatemala, Ciudad Vieja. The old
city met a fateful doom in 1541 as a result of a terrible mudslide
released from the crater of the Volcan de Agua. The city disappeared
in the valley between Agua, Fuego & Acatenango volcanoes
and the exact site of the old city is the source of much debate.
* Escape Antigua for the day and tour the countryside by mountain
bike.
* See ruins one earthquake away from extinction.
* Visit Lorenzo's experimental farm macademia at Valhalla --
sustainable agriculture, radical economics
* Explore the textile village of San Antonio Agua Calientes,
famous for its weavings. |
